Weapons’ Director Confirms Aunt Gladys Prequel Movie: ‘It’s Real. I’ve Been Talking to Warner Bros. It’s Not Bulls—‘

According To The variety “Weapons” director Zach Cregger has more plans for Aunt Gladys, the wickedly talented occult expert played by Amy Madigan. Cregger has directly confirmed that he’s developing a “Weapons” prequel that will focus on the character, affirming reports that a follow-up was in the works. “It is real and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it,” Cregger told Fangoria in a new interview. “There’s a story and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bullshit.” While studios often get to work on sequels after a film is a hit, Cregger says that he had already been mulling a concept for an Aunt Gladys prequel before “Weapons” even came out and became a box office success, grossing more than $260 million worldwide. “I was ready,” Cregger said. “I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out.” Days after the successful opening weekend of “Weapons,” The Hollywood Reporter reported that a prequel was being considered. The plot would reportedly draw from and expand on a storyline focused on Aunt Gladys’ history that was cut by Cregger during the film’s development. But up next for Cregger is the “Resident Evil” reboot, adapting Capcom’s flagship horror video game franchise. Cregger has teased that his film will feature original characters not featured in the source material. “It is obedient to the lore of the games, it’s just a different story,” Cregger said. “I’m not going to tell Leon’s story, because Leon’s story is told in the games. … I am the biggest worshiper of the games, so I’m telling a story that is a love letter to the games and follows the rules of the games.”
