Cannes’ Directors Fortnight Comedy ‘The Party’s Over’ Sells to Key Market for France TV Distribution (EXCLUSIVE)
According To The variety France TV Distribution has closed a round of deals on “The Party’s Over,” a satirical French comedy headlined by Laure Calamy (“My Lover, My Donkey & I”), Laurent Lafitte (“The Count of Monte Cristo”) and Elodie Bouchez (“Beating Hearts”). Directed by Anthony Cordier (“Gaspard at the Wedding”), the movie world premiered at Cannes’ Directors Fortnight and has been picked up by distributors in Canada (Axia Films), Italy (No.Mad Entertainment), Australia and New Zealand (Potential Films), Switzerland (Frenetic), Israel (Lev Films), Ukraine (Greenlight Film), Portugal (Cinemundo), Hungary (Cirko Film) and Benelux (Vertigo ). “The Party’s Over” was released on Sept. 25 in France by Tandem and has sold over 150,000 admissions in theaters. The movie revolves around Mehdi, 25, who is invited to spend a quiet summer with his girlfriend Garance and his in-laws in the south of France, and sees their trip turn into chaos after a conflict breaks out between Garance’s family and the villa’s caretakers couple. “After 7 years of loyal service, Tony and Nadine have had enough of being discredited by their employers. They even threaten to take legal action against their illegal working conditions.As Mehdi comes from a modest background, he believes he can lead the negotiations between the two parties and bring everyone to their senses. But Tony and Philippe won’t give up so easily: from stealing vegetables to destroying Philippe’s vintage wine collection, their creativity is limitless,” reads the synopsis. “The Party’s Over!” was penned by Jean-Alain Laban and Steven Mitz, and adapted by Cordier and Julie Peyr. The cast is completed by Ramzy Bedia (“Asterix & Obelix : The Middle Kingdom”), Sami Outalbali (“A Tale of Love and Desire”) and Noée Abita (“Sink or Swim”). It’s produced by Cheyenne Federation, and co-produced by Belgium’s Umedia.
